Multi-Family Housing in Northeast Portland

Cook Street Apartments, a hip and lively multi-family property located in the urban northeast quadrant of Portland, Oregon, began leasing in the Spring of 2016. Vida worked alongside the development team at Lake Union Partners and LRS Architects to create a space that embodied home in a fun and cool way.

With the help of LRS and Sierra Construction, Vida set out to create a modern workshop vibe with an eclectic playfulness, incorporating bright bohemian elements and industrial flair.

Hip Apartments that Speak to the Portland Vibe

When our team began working with Lake Union on the Cook Street project, our goal was to capture the North Portland vibe with the use of more casual and colorful materials and applying them in a sophisticated and modern way. Plywood, for example, a more casual material was used throughout the property in a tailored way. We also used pipes and other various materials, that although perceived as casual and possibly even a bit industrial, translated elegance and poise. And whenever we could, we incorporated custom furniture pieces by local craftsman.

Eclectic Interior Design Statements

Each space within the Cook Street community was carefully crafted by Vida designers, Rachel Sowieja, Sheena Brittingham and Alisha Olvera. When interviewing Sheena about the project post completion, there were a few key design features we wanted to highlight.

Key Design Features

Pipe Wall Divider

One of our favorite key features is the painted metal pipe screen wall located just off the main lobby. Vida worked alongside Ivan Mclean, a local metal craftsman to design, construct and paint the metal pipes in order to create this funky wall divider (which we love!).

Bookcase Divider Wall

Another key feature is a large open bookcase, located in the main lobby. Not only do the cubbies provide a way to display funky accessories, it also acts as a room divider, separating the lobby and reception desk from the leasing center.

Apartment Unit Design Ideas

The units are super unique in their own right, which is why we have included them in our favorite key features within the property. We appreciate the contrasting dichotomy between the two unit schemes, one of which is light and bright and the other dark and moody.

Thanks again to Lake Union Partners for this amazing opportunity!
